Sudar Alumnae

My name is Venmuzhil. My friends say that I am a very lively and lovely person. I did B.Sc (Physics) in Lady Doak College. Then, because of my deep interest in Tamil Literature, I studied M.A.Tamil. After that, I continued my studies in the same college as an M.Phil Scholar.

While I was doing M.Phil, I was introduced to the Sudar Foundation. Along with my friends I joined the Basic Computer Course there because I thought that I could get the necessary computer knowledge and training at a low charge. This decision of mine proved to be a turning point in my life. Little did I realize at that time that I was entering a world of love and affection and also a world of possibilities and opportunities.
Within a short period of time after joining Sudar as a student, I was treated as a member of that family; in fact, I was absorbed into it. Sudar is really interested in helping women-students stand on their own feet and meet the challenges of life, with courage and confidence. This is being done with a sense of commitment. The warmth of love and understanding I experienced in Sudar cannot be described in words. I found Sudar the right place for expression of my creative thoughts and ideas.

Right from the time I joined Sudar as a student till today, it has been a source of inspiration to me to bring about a welcome change for women in the society. As a feminist, I found Sudar a fertile ground for exploring new avenues of translating one’s ideas into actions.

My training in Sudar continued for about six months. My friends and I got the knowledge required in computer use. After getting a certificate for the completion of my studies, I left the Sudar family, of course, temporarily. Then, I worked as a Tamil teacher in a private Tamil medium School, in Bodinayakkanur, (a small town near Madurai) for one year. After that, I came back to Madurai. And that provided me with an opportunity to renew my relationship with Sudar, first over the phone. The relationship continues even today, with visits to Sudar, whenever possible, and meeting the staff and students there, which invariably prove to be an invigorating and refreshing experience.

Then, one day, to my pleasant surprise, I got a letter of invitation from Sudar. It clearly showed their love and concern for me. The Sudar family had recommended me for a job related to guiding the emerging younger generation, in the right path. Armed with the Sudar recommendation, I went to Aparajitha Trust in Chokkikulam, which is involved in programmes for children and youth. With the training and confidence I got from Sudar, I was able to do well in the interview and tests and I was selected. I am glad to say that I am now working as an Assistant teacher in their Skill Training Programme for school students.

I am happy that I have got a job suited to my skills and aptitude. That enables me to work wholeheartedly and with a sense of involvement. If I am what I am today, it is mainly because of Sudar. It has molded and shaped me. It has given enough courage to face life in all its complexities. It has taught me how to lead a meaningful and useful life. That is what Sudar does to every one of its students. To Sudar, each member is unique and deserves special attention and care.

I am and will always be thankful to Sudar for all it has done to me. I am and will always be proud of my association with Sudar. Let it continue to serve, particularly the poor and needy women students, with renewed vigor and commitment.

Name: T. Tamilarasi
College Program: B.Sc. Computer Science
Sudar and College:
After completing my school studies, I applied for a course in the government Meenakshi College but I didn’t get admission in the course I would then I got admission in B.Sc. Computer Science in St. Georges’ College and I had the advantage of paying the fees in installments; So, I joined that college. I have selected computer science because I like to work in a computer. And computer studies are very useful to get a job.
My mother and sister are interested in my studies. I attend the workshops conducted in Sudar on Saturdays. If I don’t go on a particular Saturday, my mother would persuade me to attend. The fees in Sudar are low and I am able to pay them without much difficulty.
When I joined the college, I was a bit nervous in the beginning because of the new atmosphere and also the fear of ragging. I was able to overcome this. Sudar helped me a lot in facing the challenges in the college. Workshops in Sudar gave me a lot of confidence. In Sudar, I learnt spoken English and Basic computer classes in Sudar are conducted in a friendly manner; students are encouraged to ask questions. The relationship between teachers and students is close and informal. Moreover, in Sudar, facilities are provided for students to come and do their work any time in a calm and quiet atmosphere. I would like the following courses to be offered in Sudar: Hindi, HDCA & PGDCA.
In the Alumnae day I participated in skit and song program, and that enabled me to participate in college programs also. I come to Sudar once a week and my favorite snack is sundal and lemon juice. I like to read biographies of great leaders and story books. The library could be expanded with more books on India. I would like to be a model student. My aim is to become a teacher and help my students become good citizens. In Sudar, I learn flash card preparation and writing names of the books. Also, I visit Sevashram (an orphanage) and help the students there. It is a very useful experience to learn the problems of others, particularly children. I would like more courses, useful for women to get jobs and to expand their knowledge. It is a source of inspiration and help to many women students.
Home:
I live in B.B.Kulam and the neighbors are friendly and helpful. My family members are kind and affectionate. My home is situated I a quiet area and I grow many plants in the garden. My favorite dress is churidar. I help in cleaning the home and in shopping.
My favorite food items are: Briyani, Tomato rice, ice cream, macaroni, dhal payasam (a sweet dish) prepared by my mother and bread omelet prepared by my sister and the poori I prepare.
Among the many important programmes in the college, I always look forward to the College Day because then I could proudly receive prizes in the presence of my parents. I participate in cultural programmes also. I would like to be the best outgoing student in the college.
I go to church regularly. I pray there. I get happiness and joy there, leaving behind my worries and problems. I like the Harvest Festival in my church because I could get my favorite food then.
